The moment a BBC broadcaster gives the camera the middle finger live on air has gone viral

A viral video shows a BBC News presenter, who seems to be unaware she is on broadcast, flashing her middle finger as she starts a report.

As the show's iconic musical countdown concludes, Maryam Moshiri can be seen raising her eyebrows and flipping off the camera. Moshiri, one of the network's main presenters, seems to realize she is on live television and hides her hand away before continuing to deliver the news regarding Boris Johnson.

'This is BBC News, live from London,' she adds, quickly adopting a more serious demeanor.

The gaffe occurred on the BBC News international stream on Wednesday at 12 p.m. UK time. Because the station in the United Kingdom was airing Prime Minister's Questions, the worldwide audience relied on news given from London.

Viewers responded online, with some claiming that the move lacked professionalism, while others joked that they felt the same way about their job.

It is not the first instance of a BBC News presenter cursing, with the company obliged to apologize when weatherman Tomasz Schafernaker made the same impolite gesture. During a live program, a BBC presenter is spotted giving the middle finger.

Moshiri was named in February as part of a new roster of senior BBC News channel presenters. It was announced in July that she will take over The Daily Global, which she continues to present while anchoring.

The BBC has been approached for a response. /BGNES
