The late Quincy Jones was awarded an honorary Oscar posthumously

The late Quincy Jones was posthumously awarded an honorary Oscar at an emotional and star-studded Hollywood gala evening.

The producers of the "James Bond" film series also received golden statuettes.

American music industry titan Jones died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 91 just two weeks before receiving one of the Academy's prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards at the Governors Awards.

His daughter, actress Rashida Jones, accepted the Oscar, telling the crowd that the legendary producer was "thrilled to be here tonight."

"He often said, 'Live each day as if it were your last, and one day you'll be right.' And he did it... the best, most beautiful life,” she said to a standing ovation from the audience.

Jones is best known for producing hit records for music industry legends from Frank Sinatra to Michael Jackson.

"The truth is that the man had an equally strong influence on the world of cinema," emphasized actor Jamie Foxx, presenting his award.

Jones produced seminal Hollywood films, including The Color Purple, and received multiple Academy Award nominations for film songs and soundtracks.

Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez and Zoe Saldana were among the stars who fought back tears in the audience as Jennifer Hudson performed a musical tribute. | BGNES, AFP
