The Franco-Swiss airport was evacuated after a bomb threat

A Franco-Swiss airport was temporarily evacuated following a bomb threat, hours after France's rail network was disrupted ahead of the Olympics opening ceremony.

EuroAirport, on the French side of the border near Basel, said on its website that it had reopened and flights were gradually resuming, AFP reported.

Earlier, Basel-Mulhouse airport was evacuated and closed "for security reasons".

The prefecture of France's Haute-Rhine department told AFP that the evacuation was due to a bomb threat and that bomb disposal experts had been dispatched.

Several French airports, including EuroAirport, had to be evacuated late last year due to a series of fake bomb threats.

In 2023, EuroAirport welcomed eight million passengers.

The evacuation came as French authorities hunted for the perpetrators of arson attacks on the high-speed train network that disrupted the plans of hundreds of thousands of people.
