EU countries are working on the 14th package of sanctions against Russia. The new restrictions must be adopted by the summer of 2024. The new package of restrictions will focus on secondary sanctions. This was announced by EC Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis during a seminar on the effectiveness of sanctions.
"We have started preparing the 14th package of sanctions, which should be agreed in the spring. It should include a large list of restrictions with a strong bias towards circumventing the sanctions - in the maritime sector, for example, Russia continues to try to breach the price ceiling for its oil exports," said Valdis Dombrovskis, quoted by the press service of the European Commission.
The vice-president of the European Commission stressed that "the available space for adopting new measures is becoming more and more limited", and discussions between EU members on this issue "are becoming more and more difficult".
In February this year, in honor of the anniversary of the start of the war in Ukraine, the EU approved the 13th package of sanctions. It included 106 individuals and 88 legal entities from Russia, as well as companies from India, Kazakhstan, China, Serbia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkey and Sri Lanka./BGNES
