The Eiffel Tower, one of the world's top tourist attractions, was closed due to a staff strike, the tower's operator said.
The strike, marking the 100th anniversary of the death of engineer Gustave Eiffel, who built the tower, is a protest against "the current way of management", the hard-left CGT union said in a statement.
According to him, the operator of the SETE tower "was headed for disaster".
SETE apologized to visitors, advising anyone with e-tickets for today, December 27, to "check your email".
The Eiffel Tower, Paris' most famous landmark, attracts nearly seven million visitors a year, about three-quarters of whom are foreigners.
Eiffel died on December 27, 1923 at the age of 91. /BGNES
