A top Audi executive has tragically died after plunging from a 3,000-metre mountain in Italy, The Sun reported.
Fabrizio Longo, director of Audi Italy, was climbing the Cima Pair on Mount Adamello on August 31 and fell. The 62-year-old auto boss was climbing a route equipped with fixed steel ropes, ladders and other aids.
Local media reported that the accident happened in the early afternoon and that Longo was an experienced climber.
Rescue teams rushed to the scene after a fellow climber who witnessed the tragedy called the emergency services for help.
A helicopter crew found the principal's body about 700 feet into the gorge. The prosecutor's office is currently investigating, and a funeral date will be set after Longo's body is released to his family.
Longo was born in Rimini in 1962 and graduated in political science.
His career in the automotive industry began in 1987 at Fiat, where he held marketing positions, until in 2002 he assumed responsibility for the Italian market of the Lancia brand.
The motoring boss, who joined Audi in 2012, enjoys visiting Mount Adamello - and has contributed to its conservation over the years. | BGNES
