At least 99 people have died in the wildfires in Chile. The current information was provided by the state judicial service on the social network X. Earlier it was known about 64 dead and 372 missing.
The death toll could rise, Chilean President Gabriel Borich said earlier. Rescuers inspect the destroyed houses. Some of the victims are in critical condition in hospitals.
The fires broke out in central Chile on February 2. They reached the highest intensity in the area of Valparaiso, near the town of Viña del Mar. At least 1.6 thousand people were left without homes. A botanical garden founded in 1931 was destroyed. In Chile, a state of emergency was introduced in the Valparaiso region. A three-day national mourning has been announced since February 5./BGNES
