Shortly after Nicosia announced closer cooperation with the US on money laundering issues, the Cyprus Council of Ministers approved the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the Cyprus Police and the FBI.
The memorandum refers to assistance in the investigation of possible sanctions violations, money laundering and corruption.
The decision of the Council of Ministers establishes closer cooperation between the two countries in efforts to combat money laundering and effectively investigate cases related to financial crimes, thus facilitating the prosecution of those involved.
According to the announcement, the conclusion of the memorandum "reflects the efforts of the government, and in particular the determination of the President of the Republic himself, to further strengthen the capacity of the country's law enforcement agencies to deal with illegal financial activities and to detect and prosecute financial crimes."
The memorandum will strengthen cooperation between Cypriot and American law enforcement agencies, focusing on the exchange of information and knowledge on the methodology, tactics and investigative techniques related to financial crimes, while respecting the basic principle of confidentiality of this information./BGNES
