The case against Trump for withholding classified documents was dismissed

Donald Trump won another legal victory after all federal charges against him for withholding classified documents after he left the White House were dismissed.
The Republican was sued along with two of his personal assistants over his handling of classified documents at his private Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, AFP reported.
Trump called it a "first step" in calling for the remaining 3 criminal cases against him to be dismissed.
Judge Eileen Cannon granted his lawyers' request to quash the proceedings, ruling that the appointment of special prosecutor Jack Smith, who is investigating the case, was illegal.
Cannon said the appointment and funding of the special counsel violated sections of the Constitution dealing with appointments and expenses.
"The Court is convinced that Special Counsel Smith's prosecution of this case violates two pillars of our constitutional order -- the role of Congress in appointing officials under the Constitution and the role of Congress in authorizing statutory expenditures," the judge added.
Accordingly, all scheduled hearings in this case are cancelled. However, the prosecutor's office can appeal this decision. | BGNES
