Manchester United manager Erik ten Haag admitted his side were lucky not to suffer a shock upset by second division Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-finals. At Wembley, the Red Devils were leading 3-0 until the 70th minute, but allowed their opponents to equalise, and in extra time, Coventry's fourth goal was disallowed by VAR for a minor offside.
In the end, United prevailed on penalties and will challenge Manchester City for the trophy. "We play at a very high level and then at a very low level in the same game. It's inexplicable. I have to teach my players, that's clear. We have to do better in those situations. We're failing ourselves. Today we got away with it," commented Ten Haag after the success.
Asked if what happened at Wembley was "embarrassing" for Manchester United, the Dutchman said: "At the end of the day, it's an achievement to reach the final two years in a row. I can see the mistakes we're making, but this result is not shameful," he said.
