Taylor Swift donates $1 million to Tennessee tornado victims

Taylor Swift has donated $1 million to residents affected by the deadly tornadoes that hit Tennessee.

Swift, who began her career in Hendersonville, Tenn., made her donation through the Tennessee Emergency Fund of the Community Foundation, executive director Hal Cato confirmed. The fund aims to provide financial assistance, food, temporary accommodation, debris cleanup and animal shelter to those affected.

"The Swifts have lived in Tennessee and remain deeply committed to its continued well-being," Kato said in a statement released via USA Today. "Taylor's incredibly generous gift sends a message to her hometown and surrounding communities that she is supporting them on the long road to recovery after this devastating event."

Six people were killed as the tornado swept through Tennessee, 62 were hospitalized, and hundreds of homes were severely damaged.
