Swiontek drops two games to Slovakian, Rybakina crushes Jovic

Two of the favorites for the Australian Open title, Iga Swiontek and Elena Rybakina, recorded crushing victories in the second round of the tournament.

World No. 2 Swiontek dropped only two games to Rebekah Sramkova of Slovakia and defeated her 6-0, 6-2. The Pole completely dominated the court in the first part, in which she did not give up a game to her opponent. The second set started evenly at 2-2, but then Swiontek took control again and took the next four games to close out the match after exactly one hour of play.

Thus, the five-time Grand Slam champion moves on, and in a dispute for a place in the round of 16 she will meet the British Emma Raducanu, who defeated Amanda Anisimova (USA) with 6-3, 7-5.

The finalist of 2023 Elena Rybakina also recorded a resounding success. She defeated Iva Jovic (USA) with 6-0, 6-3. The champion of Wimbledon 2022 was categorical in the first set, but the wildcard participant Jovic started the second part stronger and pulled with a breakthrough and 3-1. Rybakina responded with five consecutive games and achieved success after an hour and 20 minutes.

The tennis player from Kazakhstan has a match against the Ukrainian Daria Yastremska.

Emma Navarro, Daria Kasatkina, Beatriz Haddad Maya, Ons Jaber and Yulia Putintseva also qualified for the third round in the women's draw. | BGNES
