Swedish company Pophouse acquired the KISS catalogue

Swedish brand and entertainment company Pophouse Entertainment has announced that it has acquired the catalog of legendary American glam-metal band KISS, AFP reports.

The Swedish group, co-founded by one of ABBA's members, Bjorn Ulvaeus, will own "the music catalogue, brand and image - including the famous face paint designs - and trademarks of the iconic American rock band," it said in its press release.

The price of the deal has not been disclosed.

KISS "is one of the most recognizable and iconic bands in music history," said Johan Lagerlof, head of investments at Pophouse.

He added that a film project about the band's history and a show featuring digital avatars of the musicians is in the works.

Best known for their mega-hit "I was made for lovin' you," pyrotechnic effects and stylized makeup, the New York band has sold more than 100 million records worldwide in their 50-year career.

In December, Pophouse previously announced the creation of digital avatars for KISS's live performances, which the Swedish company says marks "the end of their physical existence."

Pophouse also helped create the "ABBA Voyage" show in London, in which digital avatars, or "ABBAtars," performed the iconic Swedish pop group's hits.

In February, Pophouse announced that it had acquired the rights to American singer Cyndi Lauper's music catalogue. /BGNES
