Sweden has promised military aid in the amount of 1.25 billion dollars to Ukraine. The news came against the backdrop of the launched Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region.
Stockholm will donate a range of armaments, including ASC 890 surveillance aircraft, medium-range Rb 99 air-to-air missiles and artillery ammunition, as well as all of its Model 302 armored personnel carriers, AFP reported.
"Sweden is supporting Ukraine with its 16th aid package, the largest to date, worth $1.25 billion," said Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Bush.
Defense Minister Pal Jonsson added that the ASC 890 surveillance aircraft will be particularly useful for Ukraine's air defenses, allowing it to "identify incoming cruise missiles and drones and identify targets both on the ground and at sea."
Stockholm does not rule out the possibility of sending its Gripen fighters to Ukraine. Sweden, however, said it was asked to refrain as it prioritized the introduction of US F-16s into the Ukrainian Air Force./BGNES
