"Illegal IPTV in practice means that entities steal access to films and series without paying for broadcasting rights, copyrights or trademark rights," Culture Minister Paris Lillestrand said.
"This has negative consequences for the film and television industry as well as for individual creators," she added, as quoted by AFP.
The broadcasting of sports content in particular is being developed through these illegal broadcasting services, via connected boxes that provide access to a bouquet of channels for a subscription fee that is much lower than the legal offering.
"In the field of sport, illegal streaming services have become a serious problem. What many people don't realise is the negative impact this has on the sports movement because it leads to a loss of revenue for federations and associations," said Jakob Forsmed, minister of social affairs responsible for sport.
The government wants to ban private access to these streaming services. The committee in charge of presenting the necessary measures is due to deliver its opinion on 30 September 2025 | BGNES
