British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has promised that flights to deport migrants to Rwanda will begin in "10 to 12 weeks" as the plan enters its final stage in parliament, AFP reported.
"We are ready, the plans are ready and these flights will take place no matter what," Sunak told a Downing Street press conference, hours before parliament approved the controversial proposal.
Mr Sunak claimed it was essential to deter record numbers of asylum seekers crossing the Channel from France to England in small boats, and made it a key pillar of his Conservative party's platform to voters.
Sunak said parliament will finally pass a bill on Rwanda's safety for asylum seekers later Monday after several weeks of legislative wrangling between its two chambers.
"That's enough. No more detours. No more delays," Sunak told reporters, adding that he envisions "several" flights a month during the summer months. /BGNES
