"NATO is not planning to send troops to Ukraine and NATO is not a party to the conflict, nor are NATO allies."
This was stated by the Secretary General of the alliance, Jens Stoltenberg. His words came on the occasion of French President Macron's proposal that Western allies not rule out sending troops to Ukraine, the Guardian reported.
Stoltenberg said that even if individual NATO countries sent troops to Ukraine, it would affect the alliance as a whole, as its members are bound by a collective defense pact.
Asked if Macron had made a mistake in speaking of "strategic ambiguity" over the possible deployment of Western troops to Ukraine, Stoltenberg said:
"I disagree: "I think it is important to consult and have a common approach to these important topics, because they are important for all of us"./BGNES
