Golden State Warriors head coach, Steve Kerr, is set to make NBA history with a groundbreaking contract extension with the team. The 58-year-old coach will sign a two-year deal worth a record-breaking $35 million, translating to an annual income of $17.5 million.
Although Kerr's current contract is set to expire at the end of the current season, both parties have reached an agreement for him to continue leading the team. ESPN reports that while San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich may have a higher annual salary, Popovich also holds the role of president within the franchise.
Having been at the helm of the Warriors since May 2014, Kerr has steered the team to six Finals appearances, securing four NBA titles in the past decade. Despite a challenging season with the current 10th place standing in the Western Conference, Kerr remains a pivotal figure in the Warriors' coaching staff.
In addition to his responsibilities with the Warriors, Kerr also serves as the head coach for the US national team, set to lead the squad in the upcoming Olympics in Paris this summer. /BGNES
