Scotland face hosts Germany in the opening game of Euro 2024.
Scotland manager Steve Clarke has said his side have "no one to fear" ahead of their Euro 2024 opener with hosts Germany in Munich tonight. The specialist is hoping to become the first coach to qualify the Bagpipers for the knockout stages of a major international tournament, but his side starts with a tough Group A clash against the three-time champions.
"We have huge respect for the host country and we know they are a good team. A difficult match awaits us. One of the mantras I've always had is "Respect everyone, but fear no one." We know we have a big fight coming up, but it's the opener, and then there are two more. We know what we need to do to qualify for the eliminations,” Clarke said.
The Scots will participate in the European for the fourth time in their history. In 11 previous appearances at major finals, including eight World Cups, they have never made it past the group stage before.
Team captain Andy Robertson said the pressure was all on Germany, who have not made it past the last 16 of a major tournament since 2016. "We are excited. We know there isn't much of a break between matches and how quickly the tournament can fly by. We can make history. There is no pressure on us, no expectations from the outside world. We have waited a long time for this match. It feels like years have passed. We know what challenge awaits us," he shared. | BGNES
