Squid Game returns to Netflix for Season 2 on December 26 - a grim pleasure just after Christmas. The company has revealed that the biggest show in its history will end with its third season, Variety reports.
The second season of the Korean drama series returns with some familiar and some new faces, and will also return for Season 3 in 2025, marking the end of the hit story, at least in scripted form.
This comes after Squid Game, which launched on September 17, 2021, became a global phenomenon, scoring over 1.65 billion hours of viewing in 28 days and reaching 111 million accounts, becoming the first Netflix series to surpass 100 million members at launch.
The third season was filmed at the same time as the second, allowing Netflix to release it in 2025, a much smaller wait for fans compared to the three years between the first two seasons.
The series is produced by Firstman Studio, and Kim Ji Yeon is also an executive producer.
"It's been almost three years since Season 1 was met with an incredible response around the world and many unimaginable events have happened," Hwang Dong-hyeok wrote.
"I remember the first day we started filming Season 2, I thought, 'Wow, I can't believe I'm back in the world of Squid Game. It felt almost surreal. I wonder how you'll feel, too, when you come back to Squid Game in three years," he explained. | BGNES
