Spain crushed Georgia 4-1 to advance to quarterfinals against Germany

Spain crushed Georgia 4-1 to face Germany in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024.

Robin Le Norman's own goal gave tournament surprise Georgia the lead, but Rhodri equalised in the 39th minute and Fabian Ruiz made the turnaround six minutes into the second half. Nico Williams and Danny Olmo sealed Spain's qualification to the next stage of the tournament.

The win is the fourth in a row for La Roja, who collected a full nine points in the group stage. Luis de la Fuente's team is one of the favourites for the title.

On the other hand, Chvic Kvaratskhelia's Georgia was the biggest surprise of the tournament and that too in its debut participation in a major forum.

The Spaniards tried to get an early goal. Mamardashvili's first danger came in the 5th minute when Pedri latched onto Carvajal's low centre, but the Georgian goalkeeper was equal to it.

On one of their counterattacks, Georgia took a surprise lead. Kakhabadze centred from the right to Kvaratskhelia and Le Norman misjudged the situation and deflected the ball into his own net.

Spain responded with powerful pressure, but the effort only yielded results in the 39th minute. Nico Williams crossed to Rhodri, who struck Mamardashvili's goal with a powerful shot.

The complete turnaround came early in the second half. Nico Williams passed to Fabian Ruiz at the far post and the midfielder scored with a header for 2-1.

The match was decided in the 75th minute in favour of La Roja. 8 minutes later the score became 4:1. Reserves Oyarzabal and Olmo worked out an excellent situation. The latter overcame a Georgia defender as soon as he took the ball, and then technically headed it into the bottom right corner of the goal for the final 4:1. I BGNES
