Sotheby's will auction a collection of jewels that once belonged to Ferdinand I, the first king of modern Bulgaria, as part of its sale of royal and noble jewels in Geneva next month.
"Royal Treasure: Ferdinand of Bulgaria (1861-1948)" will include 114 lots that span a century and were part of the history of the family of Tsar Ferdinand Saxe-Coburggotsky, reports BGNES.
These exhibits, which have not been seen in public for nearly 100 years, are making their debut at an auction where the collection is estimated at $1.2-1.8 million, National Jeweler reports.
The offering includes Tsar Ferdinand's personal jewelry and relics from his mother, as well as jewelry passed down by members of his immediate family and jewelry made for his children.
His personal effects "magnificently elevate" typically masculine and practical personal items, such as cufflinks and cigarette boxes, into works of art, the auction house said. | BGNES
