Jannik Sinner will not participate in the Masters in Paris, announced the organizers of the competition in the French capital. The world number 1 has an intestinal virus that has prevented him from being on the courts at Bercy Hall.
Sinner, who will finish the year as the men's world No. 1 for the first time in his career, will be replaced in the main draw by the hosts' representative Arthur Cazaux, who played in the qualifiers. Cazaux faces one of his compatriot Corentin Moutet or Basel finalist Ben Shelton in the second round.
Organizers wrote that Sinner was "suffering from an intestinal virus that he caught before arriving in Paris". The Italian will now recover before taking part in the ATP Finals in Turin between November 10-17. Sinner is then expected to play in the Davis Cup Finals next week in Malaga, Spain. Italy is the current holder of the trophy.
The world number 1 is enjoying the strongest season of his career. So far, he has won seven titles since the start of 2024, including two Grand Slams - the Australian Open and the US Open, as well as three from the Masters 1000 - Miami, Cincinnati and Shanghai. | BGNES
