Sinner made a winning start in Turin after two-set victory over De Minaur

Jannik Sinner had a successful start to his participation in the ATP Finals. In front of his home crowd in Turin, the world No. 1 delighted the spectators in the stands with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Alex de Minaur in about an hour and 25 minutes of play.

The debutant in the final Masters top eight De Minaur started confidently and was the first to break in the opening set. However, an instant re-break followed and Sinner began to establish control over what was happening on the court. He made another breakt and had no problems until the end of the set. In the second, the representative of the hosts needed only one break to seal the final win.

Despite finishing with a 18 winners and 24 unforced errors, Sinner dominated on his own serve, finishing with 8 aces and 1 double fault, won 81% and 76% of first- and second-serve points, respectively, and conceded just one break point in the match. At the net, he won 12/14 points.

Thus, the Italian, who will finish the year as world number 1, started with a victory in the Ilie Nastase group. US Open finalist Taylor Fritz defeated Daniil Medvedev in straight sets to start in the same winning fashion. In the next matches of the group, Sinner faces Fritz in a repeat of the final from New York and Medvedev plays De Minor.
