Jannik Sinner won a third Masters 1000 title of the season after beating Novak Djokovic 7-6 (4), 6-3 in the Shanghai final. The clash between the two lasted nearly an hour and 40 minutes.
World No. 1 Sinner, who has won two of the four Grand Slam tournaments in Australia and the US this year, is fittingly marking the fact that he will end the season at the top of men's tennis for the first time in his career. The opening set was decided in a tiebreak after no break point was reached. In the tiebreak Sinner went up 4-0 and 5-1 points and did not allow any surprises until the end. In the second set the Italian needed one break of serve to break the resistance of the four-time champion. Joker never got to a break point in the match, a testament to Sinner's great day of service.
The ATP Tour leader added to his Miami and Cincinnati titles earlier in the year. He achieved a third consecutive victory over Djokovic and leveled the head-to-head clashes between the two at 4-4 wins. Sinner avenged his dramatic loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the final in Beijing.
Djokovic, for his part, remains with 99 titles at the ATP level. However, his last one dates back to the end of last year - at the Masters in Paris, when he beat Bulgaria's first racket Grigor Dimitrov. | BGNES
