Singer The Weeknd has donated $2.5 million to civilians in Gaza

The singer, better known as The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, has made a whopping donation of 2.5 million to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) to help civilians in Gaza. In other words, 4 million meals for Palestinian civilians. This "precious" generosity will enable the UN organization to "feed 173,000 citizens for at least two weeks".

"We thank Abel for this valuable contribution to the Palestinian people," Corinne Fleischer, WFP director for the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe, wrote in a statement released on December 1. "We hope others will follow suit and support our efforts." The donation was made "at a critical moment" when the humanitarian truce between Israel and Hamas is coming to an end. The organization said it was "seeking to feed more than one million Gazans who are on the brink of starvation" since the bombing began.

Since 2021, the World Food Program has had a committed ambassador in The Weeknd. This year, the Canadian, who set the world on fire with his world tour last summer, donated 1.6 million euros (from his personal fortune) to the United Nations World Food Program. He then raised $5 million with his XO Humanitarian Fund campaign to "support emergency food aid for women and children in Ethiopia." /BGNES
