Sinead O'Connor died of a broken heart

Six months after the death of Sinead O'Connor, the cause of the Irish singer's death became known. A friend of hers said she died of a "broken heart".

Sinead died last July aged 56. A representative of the London coroner's office confirmed to TMZ that the star's death was due to natural causes. He added that the investigation into the singer's death has been completed. The confirmation comes shortly after the singer's friend and producer David Holmes said she had "died of a broken heart" over the tragic death of her 17-year-old son Shane.

"Although Sinead was incredibly resilient, I fully believe that people can die of a broken heart," Holmes said.

O'Connor died exactly one year after her 17-year-old son killed himself. Shortly after his death, she was admitted to the hospital. She blamed herself for his suicide: "No one is to blame for his death but me."

Shortly before his death, O'Connor posted a photo with his son on the X Network and wrote: "He was the love of my life, the light of my soul. We were two parts of one. He was the only person who loved me unconditionally."

Sinead has battled mental health throughout her career, including bipolar disorder and depression for many years. As a child, O'Connor was sexually and emotionally abused by her mother. The singer is survived by three children: Jake, Roisin and Yeshua.

Despite her experiences, shortly before her death Sinead, according to her friends, gave the impression that she was happy with her life and making plans for the future. The singer revealed on social media that she recently moved into a "sweet new flat" in West London and plans to "write new music" - she even hinted at an upcoming album and world tour.

During her career, O'Connor has released 10 studio albums. She rose to fame in 1990 with her cover of Prince's Nothing Compares 2 U. At the 1990 Billboard Music Awards, the song was named the number one single in the world. /BGNES
