The President of North Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, today met with the new ambassador of the European Union in Skopje, Mikalis Rokas, BGNES reported.
"Joining the European Union represents our firm strategic determination and generational goal, for the realization of which dozens of our state leaders, political representatives, representatives of the civil sector, academic and scientific workers, businessmen, journalists and many other diplomats have committed themselves," said Siljanovska and added that "as a country of friendship and coexistence, North Macedonia respects diversity and values its neighbors, and through its actions actively promotes European values in the region and beyond".
She expressed her belief that with the support of the EU, the country can progress towards full European integration, at an accelerated pace and without obstacles.
"Over the years, we have made bold and very difficult decisions in the interest of the future of our citizens and the country. We have done a lot to get closer to the necessary European standards, adopt a significant part of EU legislation and build effective administrative and judicial capacity. At the same time, we have remained a proven trusted partner for the Union, both in terms of reforms and through our contribution to addressing the many common challenges," the Macedonian president added.
Michalis Rokas, when presenting the credentials, quoted the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen: "Enlargement is an investment in our collective strength and security. We want a strong, competitive and safe Europe and that includes the Western Balkans as well as Ukraine and Moldova in our European Union."
Ambassador Roxas recalled the recent decision of the Council and the European Parliament to finance the Reform and Growth Instrument for the Western Balkans.
"This shows that the EU is investing funds commensurate with the level of our ambitions. We are ready to accompany your country, the new government, institutions and civil society on the way to further European integration. I would like to assure you that my goal is to help North Macedonia move forward and make visible steps towards this common determination to join the Union," Ambassador Rokas said.
"We hope that negotiations and reforms can soon become mutually reinforcing processes. Both processes are challenging for your government and public administration. We remain ready to provide all necessary assistance to strengthen institutions through our pre-accession instrument, the IPA. We are ready for an open dialogue, to listen, advise and find solutions together. I expect to cooperate with you, with the parliament, with the government and with all other participants in civil society," the diplomat said. | BGNES
