Mikaela Shiffrin won the slalom at the Slovakian winter center Jasna. The American, who was fastest in the first run, held on to finish in front of 19-year-old Zrinka Ljutic of Croatia for the victory. Sweden's Anna Swenn-Larsson came third on the podium.
The Swiss Camille Rast, Melanie Meillard, Michelle Gisin, Lena Duerr (Germany), Dzenifera Germane (Latvia), the winner of yesterday's giant slalom Sara Hector (Sweden) and Neja Dvornik (Slovenia) also made the top 10. Three female skiers failed to finish the second run.
Shiffrin increased her lead in the general classification for the Grand Crystal Globe, now having 1,209 points to her name - 407 ahead of second-placed Petra Vlhova of Slovakia, who had a bad fall yesterday during the giant slalom on home soil. Third is the Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami with 789 points. After eight held slaloms in the classification for the Crystal Globe in the slalom discipline, Shiffrin is the leader with 630 points - 125 more than Vlhova. Germany's Duerr is third, 228 points from first place.
Next stop in the women's World Cup season is a downhill on January 26 in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, with another downhill a day later, and a super-G slalom on January 28. /BGNES
