Former women's No. 1 Maria Sharapova and American doubles team Bob and Mike Bryan have been inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame.
Sharapova, a five-time Grand Slam champion, is among 10 women to win a career singles Slam. The Bryan brothers, for their part, finished with 16 Grand Slam doubles titles and became the most successful duo, spending a record 438 weeks at the top of the world rankings.
The Hall of Fame induction ceremonies will be held in Newport, Rhode Island, between August 21-23 - just before the start of the next edition of the US Open.
Sharapova triumphed at Wimbledon in 2004, the US Open in 2006, the Australian Open in 2008 and Roland Garros in 2012 and 2014. "When you have retired, rarely do you reflect on the past, as you have to move quickly to your next responsibilities in life. This is an incredible recognition. Thank you so much. I am very grateful to the "Hall of Fame" and to everyone who voted for me", said the Russian.
Hall of Famers, historians, journalists and fans participated in the voting process.
The Bryan brothers, Olympic champions from London in 2012, have won a combined 119 Tour titles and a total of 1,109 matches. The pair helped the USA triumph at the Davis Cup in 2007. "A great adventure, career, we did it together", shared Bob Bryan. | BGNES
