Shakira: I stopped my career for Gerard Pique

Shakira reveals that in her 11-year relationship with Gerard Pique, there were "a lot of sacrifices in the name of love".

The 47-year-old "Hips Don't Lie" singer has opened up about what she gave up during her relationship with footballer Gerard Pique, 37.

"I put my career on hold for a long time to be with Gerard so he could play football," she told the Sunday Times. "There were many sacrifices in the name of love."

The couple has two sons: Milan, 11 years old, and Sasha, 9 years old. They announced their separation in 2022 after 11 years together.

"My priority was my home, my family. I believed in 'till death do us part. I believed in that dream," Shakira told Billboard last year. "My parents have been together for, I don't know, 50 years and they love each other like the first day, with a love that is unique and unrepeatable, so I know it's possible. This is what I wanted for myself and for my children, but it didn't happen".

Gerard refused to speak publicly about the split, telling the Spanish press: "Everyone has their responsibility to do the best for their children. The point is to protect them. That's the job of all parents with their children. That's what I'm all about focused, and that's my role as a father."

Shakira's first album in seven years, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women Don't Cry Anymore), will be released on March 22. /BGNES
