Seven-year-old boy survived 5 days in lion reserve

The boy got lost in Matusadona National Park near his village on 27 December and was later found about 50 km from the spot.

He had been surviving on wild fruits and drinking water he found from a river in the region.

Remarkably, the boy had travelled 49 kilometres from his village to where he was found, through the rugged terrain of Matusadona National Park, where there are many lions.

Rangers, locals and police began searching for the child as soon as they learned he was missing, but their efforts were hampered by heavy rain. His tracks were spotted on December 30, and the boy, Tinotenda Pundu, was found early the next day.

The child was admitted to hospital very exhausted but with no visible injuries.

Villagers helped in the search with drums in the hope that he would follow the sound. However, only the rangers were able to go deep enough into the wilderness to find him.
