Security plans for Paris Olympics stolen from French train

A bag containing a computer and two USB memory sticks with police security plans for the Olympic Games in Paris has been stolen from a train at the capital's Gare du Nord station.

The bag belonged to an engineer from Paris City Hall, police said late on 27 February, confirming a BFM television report, adding that he had placed it in the luggage compartment above his seat.

As his train was running late, he decided to change trains and then discovered the theft.

The engineer said his work computer and two USB sticks contained confidential data, specifically the municipal police's plans for securing this year's Summer Olympics.

Two thousand municipal police officers and some 35,000 security personnel will be deployed during the games, which will be held from July 26 to August 11.

Paris has been the scene of large-scale attacks, such as the one at the Bataclan in 2015, when Islamic extremists stormed the music hall and fired, killing 130 people.
