Two-time Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka continued her title defense with a comfortable 6-1, 6-2 win over Russia's Mira Andreeva in the last 16 of the tournament.
The 14th-seeded Andreeva, who is 17, has had impressive wins so far in Melbourne but had no chance against the world number one. Sabalenka dominated the court, never allowing a break, and broke her opponent five times. The Belarusian finished the match with 15 winners and 11 unforced errors, while Andreeva's balance was 10/18.
Sabalenka will face another Russian, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, for a place in the semifinals, who defeated Donna Vekic 7-6(0), 6-0.
Next up is another title favorite, Coco Gauff. The American defeated Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Belinda Bencic 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. Gauff will face Spain's Paula Badosa in the quarterfinals. The 11th seed defeated Serbia's Olga Danilovic in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6(2). | BGNES
