Ryan Gosling opens up about Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie being snubbed at the Oscars

Barbie's Ryan Gosling has spoken out after star Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig were left out of the major categories for the 2024 Oscar nominations, IGN reported.
Gosling - who is nominated for best supporting actor for his performance as Ken - told The Hollywood Reporter that he was "incredibly honored and proud" to see his work recognized by the academy, but he couldn't fully enjoy himself of the nomination, while Barbie herself and the director of the film are left out.
"There's no Ken without Barbie, and there's no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this historic, world-famous film," Gosling said. "No recognition would be possible for anyone involved in the film without their talent, drive and genius. To say I'm disappointed they weren't nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement."
He added: "Against all odds, with nothing but a few soulless puppets, they made us laugh, broke our hearts, pushed culture and made history. Their work should be recognized alongside the other very worthy nominees."
While many consider Robbie and Gerwig to be two glaring Oscar misses, Gosling took time to acknowledge America Ferrera's supporting actress nomination as well as "the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to make this such a groundbreaking film". Barbie managed to receive a total of eight nominations, including for best picture, set design and costumes.
Gosling was far from the only one to share his frustrations online.
"No nomination for Greta Gerwig? Can that really be true?" Stephen King declared in X.
"Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie were as important to Barbie's critical and commercial success as Nolan and Cillian Murphy were to Oppenheimer's - imagine the uproar if one or both men were left out! It's crazy how Barbie is" worthy of an Oscar,' but not the women who made it so,' said a user on X.
Barbie quickly became part of the global scene when she took over cinemas last summer. The film crossed the $1 billion mark, with Box Office Mojo reporting that its worldwide total eventually reached a staggering $1,445,638,421. /BGNES
