Ruud van Nistelrooy is the new manager of Leicester City

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid top scorer Ruud van Nistelrooy has been appointed manager of Leicester City. The Dutchman replaces Steve Cooper, who was sacked after a poor start to the season and a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea in the final round.

Van Nistelrooy started the season as assistant to Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, and after ten Hag was sacked in October, he has been in temporary charge of the Red Devils. Interestingly, during this period he recorded two victories over Leicester City - in the Premier League and in the League Cup, before leaving Old Trafford after the arrival of new manager Ruben Amorim.

Now Van Nistelrooy, who won the Dutch Cup with PSV Eindhoven in his coaching career, is back in the Premier League, this time as a head coach.

Van Nistelrooy's task will be to keep the Foxes in the top flight of England. After 12 rounds and just two wins, Leicester City are just one point above the relegation zone. | BGN
