Two people have been killed in a Russian attack on the town of Kurahovo, located in the eastern Donetsk region, AFP reports.
"Various high-rise buildings were damaged. Two people were wounded, two people died," military administration chief Roman Padun said on social media.
Kurahovo is located near the frontline in eastern Ukraine, 40 km west of the Russian-occupied capital Donetsk.
Ukrainian troops are fighting against outnumbered Russian forces advancing on the key town of Chasiv Yar.
Ukrainian officials said Russian forces aim to capture the hilltop town before May 9 to give Putin a symbolic victory. That date marks Russia's victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.
In an interview with Britain's Times newspaper, the commander of Ukraine's ground forces, Oleksandr Pavliuk, described the dire situation around the key city.
"We are trying to do everything possible to stop the Russian plan to take Chasiv Yar before May 9. But the Russians have a 10:1 ratio of artillery superiority there and complete superiority in the air," Pavliuk said.
Ukrainian forces are suffering from an ammunition shortage, due in part to a months-long delay in U.S. aid. It was approved by President Joe Biden last week after Congress finally passed the measure.
