Russia has offered to help Vietnam build nuclear power plants, the head of Russia's state nuclear company Rosatom, Alexei Likhachov, has said.
The offer was made during Vladimir Putin's visit to Hanoi, RIA Novosti reported.
Likhachov, who was in Vietnam with Putin, said he made the offer to Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
"We proposed all possible options for cooperation in my talks with the Vietnamese prime minister. Rosatom is offering foreign partners not only large but also small-capacity nuclear power plants in both land-based and floating versions," Likhanov added.
Vietnam has no nuclear power plants and abandoned plans to build its first two nuclear power plants in 2016 after the accident at Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant and due to budget constraints.
Before Vietnam canceled plans to build the plants, Rosatom had offered Hanoi a project based on high-power units and advanced Russian reactors, Likhachov said. | BGNES
