Ukraine's energy installations have been the target of a "massive" Russian attack, Ukrainian authorities said.
At the height of the winter season, Russia regularly bombs these infrastructures and causes power outages across the country.
"The enemy continues to terrorize. Once again, the energy sector across Ukraine is the target of a massive attack," the Ukrainian energy ministry was quoted as saying by AFP.
"Energy officials are taking all necessary measures to minimise the negative consequences for the energy system," it added, specifying that the extent of the damage would be established after the lifting of the air raid alert, which is still ongoing.
For almost three years, Russia has been bombarding Ukrainian power installations with missiles and drones, especially in the run-up to winter and during winter, causing power shortages and plunging millions of Ukrainians into darkness and cold.
Ukraine is demanding that its Western allies provide it with more air defence funds to protect its cities and infrastructure.
Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga has echoed that call, while Kiev regularly criticises its allies for the slowness and timidity of their aid.
"Russia is trying to deprive us of energy. And we must deprive it of the means with which to (spread) its terror. I reiterate my call for urgent delivery of 20 air defense systems, NASAMS, HAWK and IRIS-T," he wrote in X. | BGNES
