Russia detains suspect in murder of General Igor Kirillov

Russia has detained a suspect in the killing of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of the Russian armed forces' radiation, chemical and biological protection forces.

The general and his aide were killed in an explosion in Moscow on 17 December. Ukraine claimed responsibility for the attack, declaring Kirillov a "war criminal and a completely legitimate target."

"A citizen of Uzbekistan, born in 1995, has been arrested on suspicion of carrying out the attack that took the lives of the commander of the Russian radiological, chemical and biological protection forces, Igor Kirillov, and his aide, Ilya Polikarpov," the Investigative Committee said in a statement. The suspect claimed he was "recruited by Ukrainian special forces," Russian authorities stated. | BGNES
