Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is about to launch an absolutely unprecedented initiative - a satellite broadcast package! It will enable independent Russian media to broadcast news and information for Russian speakers who are currently denied access to independent reporting.
Thanks to this satellite package, called "Svoboda" - the Russian word for "freedom" - RSF will turn the Kremlin's propaganda method on its head. Instead of receiving in our democracies content produced under the authoritarian control of Russia, we will enable independent media to broadcast diverse and freely reported news and information to people who do not enjoy the right to such content.
This satellite package will be operational in a few weeks. It will consist of news programs offering a pluralistic and objective view of international events. Special media and ethics committees will be established to ensure that this satellite package is used in accordance with the best journalistic standards.
