Portugal striker Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed after the 3-0 win over Slovenia on penalties that this European Championship is the last of his career.
"I have never been afraid of challenges and to give up is the last thing you can expect from me. . This is certainly my last European Championship. That fact doesn't bother me. I am still full of enthusiasm. I felt sorry for the fans. I will always give my best for the Portugal jersey," Ronaldo was quoted as saying by A Bola
Against Slovenia, he missed a penalty in extra time, but it did not prove fatal and Roberto Martinez's team went ahead. In the penalty shootout, Ronaldo was first behind the ball and made no mistake, while Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa saved all three Slovenian penalties and qualified his team for the quarter-finals.
"It was tough, but that's football. The opponents defended well - they are very strong - but Portugal won because we played better and deserved a place in the top eight. We showed enthusiasm, we showed that we want to play, have fun and bring joy to the fans - that's what our life is all about," said Portugal's big star.
"We have a tough game against France, who are one of the favourites to win the tournament. But we are going to war. The team is good and I will give my best with this jersey," Ronaldo added. | BGNES
