Romanian President Klaus Iohannis has announced that he has approved the entry, stay or transit of a NATO response force in the country in 2024 to prepare or conduct military operations.
The President sent a letter regarding the decision to the Romanian Parliament, "Romania Insider" reported.
According to the head of state, in the context of a series of simultaneous crises in 2023, the international environment is becoming increasingly unpredictable, and instability is becoming an important feature of security dynamics. Therefore, the preconditions for a serious crisis in the field of security, which would have consequences for the national independence and sovereignty of Romania, could arise. In the context of neutralizing the crisis and preventing its escalation, NATO may decide to deploy a Very High Readiness Intervention Force (VJTF) on Romanian territory.
In this context, Iohannis informed the parliament that he approved the entry and stay of such forces in the country in 2024. /BGNES
