Sir Rod Stewart surprised five-star Scottish hotel personnel with a £10,000 gratuity. At Perthshire's Gleneagles Hotel, the musician, 78, celebrated the New Year with his wife Penny Lancaster, 52, and kids Alastair, 18, and Aiden, 12.
The Maggie May singer gave the luxury retreat workers a large tip, which shocked them. The generous singer, whose new album Swing Fever with Jools Holland is out on February 23, said: “I've stayed in some of the world's top hotels and Gleneagles' service is second to none.
“The staff deserves every penny for their hard work during a busy season. Scottish hospitality at its best.”
A hotel insider told the Daily Record: “It was a pleasure looking after Rod and his lovely family and we’re delighted that he enjoyed his stay.”
Sir Rod said, “I advised the boys and girls at Gleneagles to invest the money wisely – stick the lot on Scotland to win the Euros.”
The music legend posted a photo of himself and his boys in traditional Scottish dress with a glamorous Penny on Instagram, captioning it: “A dedication to my wonderful Scottish father.”
The family saw Celtic beat Rangers 2-1 in the Old Firm match on December 30. Penny uploaded a photo of herself, Sir Rod and Alastair toasting the win with Hotel American Bar drinks. She tweeted, “Celebrating 2-1 win to Celtic.”
Gleneagles has 11 restaurants and bars, including Scotland's only two-star Michelin restaurant, and was crowned the world's greatest hotel for hospitality./BGNES
