Ridley Scott doesn't stick to historical accuracy

'Gladiator 2' by Ridley Scott continues his tradition of taking creative liberties with historical accuracy and his own filmography. The film, which will be released in November 2024, comes 24 years after the original Gladiator. Although Russell Crowe's Maximus won't be returning, Irish actor Paul Mescal has been cast as Lucius Verus II, a character introduced in the first film as a child, played by Spencer Trait Clark.

Interestingly, Scott has reprised this character twice - with Mescal for the adult version and a new actor for the flashback scenes for the younger ones. This reflects Scott's focus on his directorial vision rather than strict adherence to historical or narrative sequence. | BGNES
