Rap mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs will remain in jail awaiting trial on racketeering and sex trafficking charges after a judge rejected his appeal.
Judge Andrew Carter upheld the previous day's ruling that the bail package proposed by his defense team - which included $50 million secured by his Miami home - was insufficient given his history of violence and substance abuse and his ability to manipulate witnesses.
"It didn't work out for us," Combs' attorney, Mark Anifilo, said in federal court in Manhattan after the ruling.
He vowed to continue to push for Combs' release on bail and also said he would ask that the trial move forward "as quickly as possible."
"Wherever he is, his determination is the same. He believes he is innocent," Agnifilo pointed out, claiming Combs' prison conditions were "inhumane."
The 54-year-old rapper is facing three charges alleging he sexually assaulted women and forced them into drug-fueled sex parties using threats and violence.
Combs is also charged with transporting victims across state lines for the purpose of prostitution.
Prosecutors have compared his crimes to those of the late Jeffrey Epstein, sex cult leader Keith Raniere and musician R. Kelly, who received more than 30 years in prison for racketeering, sex trafficking and child sex crimes.
Combs is credited with a key role in the commercialization of hip-hop, which produced a galaxy of stars including The Notorious B.I.G. | BGNES
