Putin to Trump: 'I am open to dialogue on the Ukrainian conflict'

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Donald Trump on his upcoming inauguration as US President. Putin said he was open to "dialogue on the Ukrainian conflict".

His words came during an operational meeting with Security Council members, TASS reported.

"We are open to dialogue with the new US administration on the Ukrainian conflict. The most important thing here is to remove the root causes of the crisis, which we have talked about many times. This is the most important thing," the Russian president stressed.

Putin was referring to Trump's statements on restoring direct contacts with Russia. The Russian president said those contacts were cut off because of the outgoing administration of Joe Biden.

"We also hear his statement about the need to do everything to prevent a third world war. Of course, we welcome this position and congratulate the President-elect of the United States of America on his assumption of office," Putin said. | BGNES
