The seventh round of the league phase of the Champions League will conclude with nine matches today, January 22. In the most intriguing match of the program, Paris Saint-Germain hosts Manchester City, and the match at the Parc des Princes is at 22:00 Bulgarian time.
Both teams need a win to reach the top 24, after their chances for the top 8, which continue directly to the round of 16, more or less faded. Luis Enrique's PSG is 25th in the standings with only 7 points so far, while Pep Guardiola's City has one more than the Parisians and occupies 22nd position, which provides a better starting position for the Citizens for the clash in the French capital.
The English champions have improved their form in the last three weeks, recording four wins and one draw in their last five matches in all competitions. In the last round of the Premier League, the Sky Blues defeated newcomers Ipswich 6:0 away and reminded us of their best days. However, City have not had a victory in their last three Champions League matches – two defeats to Sporting Lisbon and Juventus and a 3:3 draw with Feyenoord – then the Manchester team squandered a three-goal lead in the final quarter of an hour of the match with the Dutch team.
The French champions, on the other hand, achieved an important away victory over RB Salzburg with 3:0 in the last round of matches in the Champions League, but in their previous four matches in the league phase they lost three times and drew one – defeats to Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich, and a draw with PSV Eindhoven at home. In their last match in the French Ligue 1, Enrique and company took three points after a difficult visit to Lens, after trailing 0:1.
