Protests across Greece over Tempe train crash

Under the slogan "I don't have oxygen", protests have been organised by the victims' families association in at least 97 cities in Greece and 13 cities internationally on January 26. A protest in memory of the victims has already taken place in Brussels on the afternoon of 25 January.

In Athens, the demonstration is taking place in Syntagma Square from 12.00, with traffic restrictions in the city centre and other areas where protests are taking place. Syntagma metro station on lines 2 and 3 is closed from 10.00 as part of safety measures.

In Thessaloniki, New Railway Station is also closed, although train services continue uninterrupted on the rest of line 1.

BGNES recalls that on 28 January 2023, near the city of Larissa, the two trains (passenger and freight) collided head-on, causing the worst railway accident in the country. Many of the victims and injured then were students. | BGNES
