Kate, the Princess of Wales, will remain in hospital for up to two weeks following abdominal surgery, the British royals' office said, AFP reports.
"The surgery was successful and she is expected to remain in hospital for 10-14 days before returning home to continue her recovery," Kensington Palace said.
The 42-year-old wife of William, Prince of Wales, heir to the British throne, was admitted to a private clinic in central London on January 16.
Based on current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties before Easter.
The princess is one of the most popular and photographed members of the royal family.
She is often seen with 41-year-old William, by whom she has three young children, but is increasingly taking solo public engagements.
Kensington Palace added: "The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this announcement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality as possible for her children; and her wish for her private medical information to remain confidential."
Kensington Palace will only provide updates on Her Royal Highness's progress when there is important new information to share. The Princess of Wales wants to apologise to all concerned for having to postpone her upcoming engagements. She is looking forward to recovering as soon as possible," the message added. /BGNES
